This newly-discovered story is published here in English for the first time—together with Verne’s final words before his death on the future of the submarine as an instrument of war. Also in this volume is another never-before-translated tale, “The Siege of Rome,” a historical adventure of love and betrayal as Garibaldi’s revolutionaries are defeated in 1849.
