Country singer and actress Reba McEntire was born in McAlester. Oklahoma on March 28. 1955 and raised on a cattle ranch in Chockie. Oklahoma. Her father was a rodeo rider and the family used to travel the south by car. On those car trips Reba's mother. Jacqueline McEntire. taught her four children to sing harmony. Young Reba then went on to perform at her school. Beginning in first grade she sang "Away in a Manger" at her elementary school Christmas pageant. In fifth grade, she joined the 4-H club and won first place in the Junior Act Division for singing "My Sweet Little Alice Blue Gown." With her mother's help, she and her siblings formed the Singing McEntires, which played at local events around the state. Reba also played basketball and ran track. For several summers, she attended a basketball camp and she took piano and guitar lessons. Reba had also developed an interest in the rodeo and trained to become a barrel racer, winning several awards. Later she enroll at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and studied to become a public school teacher like her mother had been. She continued to occasionally perform and in 1974 was heard singing at the National Rodeo Finals by country performer Red Steagall. Attracted by her singing voice. Red helped her secure a recording contract with Mercury Records in 1975. She relocated to Nashville. Tennessee, with her mother that year. In 1976 Reba released her first single, it basically went nowhere. But that was just the start. Since that release Reba has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and placed over 100 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, 25 of which reached the # I position. As an actress Reba made her film debut in 1989's "Tremors" with Michael Gross and Kevin Bacon. Other film roles include 1991's "The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw" with Kenny Rogers, 1994’s "North" and several others. On television she starred in the series "Reba," which aired for six seasons starting in 1991. "Malibu Country" in 2012. In 2023 "Reba McEntire’s The Hammer" aired. She is a judge on "The Voice" and the upcoming, as of this writing. "Happy's Place" co-starring Melissa Peterman who also co-starred in "Reba." On January 26, 2001. Reba expanded her acting into theater starring as Annie Oakley in the Broadway revival of "Annie Get Your Gun" to great acclaim. She also owns several businesses, including a restaurant and a clothing line. Reba has truly done it all!
