The Complete Filmography of Richard Carlson
by Randy Bonneville
Richard Carlson was once described as the quintessential science fiction actor, and his intelligent and heroic performances in such classics as It Came from Outer Space, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Magnetic Monster and The Maze certainly qualify him as such. He also became a familiar face to television audiences as the undercover communist buster on the three seasons of I Led Three Lives.
Before he became well-known for fighting outer space visitors, Amazonian gillmen, and communist spies, Carlson was a popular mainstream leading man, though he did foray into the supernatural in a couple of “ghost” comedies: The Ghost Breakers (with Bob Hope) and Hold That Ghost (co-starring with Abbott and Costello). Two of his popular non-genre offerings are King Solomon’s Mines and his turn as Alamo defender Col. William Travis in The Last Command.
The University of Minnesota graduate also wrote scripts for television and a motion picture screenplay, along with several directing accomplishments for both mediums.
Richard Carlson’s varied career is examined in this book, which features a complete listing of his films along with his television roles.
