Q&A with James McFadden, author of The Unauthorized G.I. Joe Chronology

Q: How long have you been a fan of the G.I. Joe franchise?

JAMES McFADDEN: I've been a fan of G.I. Joe since the very start of its re-launch in the early 1980s.

Q: What inspired your fascination with that universe, and why?

McFADDEN: The property, at its beginning, was essentially a superhero adventure, blended with sci-fi and real-world military elements, all of which could be watched on TV, read in comics and played with every day through the toys. It's a mixture that was very difficult for a kid to resist.

Q: How would you sum up the project to tantalize future readers?

McFADDEN: The book will cover every corner of the world of G.I. Joe that exists, from back in the 1960s to today. If you were ever a fan of G.I. Joe in its nearly fifty-year history, there's something in the project for you. Plus, the book will not only offer a chronology of stories, but also include behind-the-scenes details about the real-world history of the property over the years.

Q: What most excites you about working on this book?

McFADDEN: I am excited to be able to introduce fans of one specific era of G.I. Joe to all of the other corners of its universe. Newer fans, in particular, may be surprised at how much material dedicated to the vintage toys is out there.
